The most discouraging experiences I have had coding is finding out something I worked tirelessly on ended up being a complete waste. I remember significantly changing the onboarding workflow for an app 5 times. Each time, there was no consideration for how it impacted the user. Before going to production, I reviewed the solution and found a serious dead end. If only we were regularly asking these questions:
